Kingsman
One of the movies which shouldn't be judged by their trailer alone is the movie Kingsman: The Secret Service
Watching the trailer makes it seem as if the movie is something like an adolescent Johnny English which it is clearly not.
It has a lot of gratuitous violence and strong language so it is definitely not meant for teenagers although many will argue that if the movie doesn't contain violence and strong language teenagers will probably not want to watch the movie.
Colin Firth is extremely convincing playing the part of a gentleman spy. Samuel Jackson's performance as the evil genius who wants to depopulate the world is sometimes needlessly over the top. That is being over the top and not funny at the same time.
While the trailer seems to suggest this movie is something like Percy Jackson the violence is a lot more graphic than what is shown in the Percy Jackson movies.
The movie constantly plays with the expectations movies of this genre("spy thriller") have and delights in enforcing some of the tropes of the genre and flaunting the "rules" by flouting the other "rules" of the genre.
The pleasure incurred by watching "genre" movies is in enjoying the ways conventions are subverted.
The knowledgeable viewer will undoubtedly be reminded of what critics of Bill Gates say is his plan of depopulating the planet...as we see that in Samuel Jacksons plan of depopulating the world.
Like other movies of the "spy movie" genre the protagonists and antagonists are armed to the teeth with gadgets which can administer poison, lighters which are concealed grenades.
The movie has also got its own version of M. James Bond's boss.
Overall I will say that Kingsman is a great example of the "spy movie" genre ..it is entertaining and a must watch for the fans of the genre.
