Doctor Strange-Movie Review

Marvel’s Doctor Strange is one of those rare films that gets nearly everything right. It has the perfect mix of humour, action, storytelling, romance, mystery and more. This is one of my favourite marvel movies. The film tells the story of Doctor Strange, a gifted neurosurgeon who discovers that there is more to his life than merely success and fame. The film beautifully captures the transformation of Stephen Strange, MD to Stephen Strange. MS (master Sorcerer). The film has been praised by critics who were spellbound by the effects, story and acting. The actors are a perfect match for their roles. Tilda Swinton is perfect as the Ancient One, Strange’s spiritual/magical guru who shows him how to unlock the powers within him.

As many have pointed out this is the first Marvel movie in which magic is introduced. DC introduced magic in their movie Suicide Squad, where the character called The Enchantress is introduced. In both the comic book universes magic plays an important role in the lives of our superheroes and villains. They are affected by it and respond to it. Though 2012’s The Avengers also had a character who used magic, this is the first-time magic is playing a central role. It is important to note that Doctor Strange doesn’t have superpowers like other superheroes. Without his magic ring and cloak he is just like any other person. He can be knocked out or even killed. His power comes from his ability to channel magic with his ring.  There is also some speculation that that Dr. Strange will also appear in the upcoming Avengers movies. The reason for that is that this movie introduces an infinity stone worn by Dr. Strange. As we know the main villain of the upcoming Avengers movie Thanos is trying to secure all the infinity stones to power the infinity gauntlet. One of the reasons the movie has garnered praise from critics is because it depicts the transformation of Stephen Strange in a very convincing way. From an arrogant doctor who is sure of himself and of the world around him to a novice user of magic-this transformation is probably the best part of the movie.

Pitted against Strange is a former disciple of the Ancient One. An evil magician who turns to the dark side. This magician uses his powers to summon a dark force into the earthly dimension. A recurring theme in the movie is the existence of multiple dimensions that can be accessed from our world through portals. Mads Mikkelsen is perfectly cast as the villain. Overall this is a great movie for both casual and hardcore fans.
