Guardians of the Galaxy (some thoughts)

Guardians of the galaxy is definitely one of the best Marvel movies till date. It is thoroughly engrossing and succeeds in putting across the idea of the galaxy in which the movie is set in. I have read the comic books on which the movie is based on and i find that the approach is authentic if you have liked the comic books you can be pretty sure that you will like the movie. Comparisons to The Avengers is inevitable and if asked which is the better movie i will say (in my opinion) the Guardians of The Galaxy because it remains more true to its comic book roots. The success of the movie stems from its character expositions. Diverse characters are portrayed  and they are mostly well developed. Of course comic book purists will always find fault with one or more details of the movie as that is inevitable in an adaptation like this. The movie has excellent special effects the best in any Marvel movie till date and unlike the previous Marvel movies a lot of work has been done on the backdrop on which our characters interact. The planets on which they fight, the politics of the various factions have been dealt with without going into mind numbing detail. The galaxy and its inhabitants are well fleshed out. The reason this movie scores so brilliantly is because of the stand out performances by the lead actors. Chris Pratt puts in an excellent performance as Star Lord and the performances by the other actors are a treat to watch as well. The villains in this installment are interesting and formidable who lend depth to their roles. However viewers are still advised that this movie is still a Marvel movie so it would be wrong to expect a full blown Nolanesque retelling of the Guardians of Galaxy franchise. Don't go expecting to see metaphysical expositions of the nature of good and evil. Its a simple tale well told with great visual effects and something the average summer movie goer will comprehend and enjoy.
